 WDS is hosting lip sync battles at lunch today in ROOM 207/208 to benefit the Red Cross hurricane relief. Tickets are $2 and will be sold at the door. Come support the cause!

 This week is National Teen Driving Safety Week. Here is your daily safety tip. With each passenger in the vehicle, your risk of a deadly crash goes up. Know the law before you hit the road; it may prohibit you from having any passengers in the vehicle with you. If you are a passenger, remember to be courteous to the driver and don’t distract them. Be alert today so you can be alive tomorrow.

 NHS has a meeting today in room 4. All meetings are mandatory. Please see an advisor or officer to be excused from any meeting you are unable to attend.

NHS will have a workshop to help you start your college and scholarship search. We can help you navigate important websites for starting your college search, applying for scholarships, and the application process. Come by and get help from real people!

 Students interested in applying to one of the five service academies… There will be an Academy Information Night at ERHS at 6pm this evening. This is an excellent opportunity for students in grades 9-11 to start planning for this extensive application process.

Speeding is a critical issue for all drivers, especially for teens who lack the experience to react to changing circumstances around their cars. Obey the speed limit and know that every time the speed you’re driving doubles, the distance your car will travel when you try to stop quadruples. Speed thrills but kills.

 Football players, Coach Spackman will be available to turn in gear at lunch and after school today. All gear must be removed from the locker rooms today, or you will be assessed a cleaning fee!

 Improv is having our second workshop today after school in the room formerly named Little Theater. All are invited, no experience necessary. Remember, no food or drink are allowed so please finish all your snacks by start time, 2:30. See Mrs. Templeton in room 12 during improv today at lunch if you have questions!

 Academic Awards were presented to students by counselors and administrators during classes last week. If you believe you should have earned an award but weren’t presented one, please see your counselor or our Curriculum Principal—Mrs. Susel. Congratulations again to the 200 students who earned awards! There are a few character traits that it takes to have academic success and those traits are something that everyone can have—so keep being curious, keep being creative and keep persevering when something doesn’t come easily.

Seatbelt usage reduces the risk of a fatal injury by 50% in the front seat and 75% in the back seats. So, click clack front and back!

Juniors and Seniors—You and your parents are invited to attend Junior Senior Parent Night at CHS tonight. The program will begin at 6:30 PM in the CHS auditorium followed by a special presentation regarding prepping for the ACT and SAT exams. Presenters will be at CHS to explain the many different career and educational pathways available for our students after graduation including Job Corp, local universities, apprenticeship opportunities, and military service. In addition, there will be information regarding caps and gowns from Jostens, financial aid and various scholarships.

Girls Hockey will start on October 17th. If you are interested, see Mrs. Huffer in the activities office.

This week is National Teen Driving Safety Week. The Freshmen class will be providing a daily safety tip every day this week. To prevent crashes, you should never text, dial, or use mobile apps while driving. Place the phone out of reach when you’re on the road. Turn on the “do not disturb” or similar feature on your phone if you have to. Distracted driving isn’t limited to phone use. Other passengers, audio, and climate controls in the vehicle, and eating or drinking while driving are all examples of dangerous distractions for teen drivers. Remember Mustangs, one text or call could wreck it all.

 The choir has a concert tonight at 6 pm and 8 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door.
